DRONE ALERT! The desolate beauty of Paracas and the Islas Ballestas in Peru

Hi everyone! Yes it has been a while (a couple of months in fact.. I’ve been busy with my new job in the Netherlands – and some travels in between (including our dog Chapo), but we’ve got some drone videos in stock at the moment – a wonderful opportunity to start the new year with some new articles! Moreover I’m super pleased to see that the audience for this blog is still growing immensely (over 17.000 viewers in December 2019 alone!!!), even though I took a little break. Really cool. Anyway, back to business.

This first drone video is a shorty about our trip to the wildlife of Islas Ballestas and the desolate landscapes of the Paracas National Park. These areas are next to one another and only a couple of hours south from Lima and therefore a popular destination in Peru.

If you’re planning a trip to Peru (perhaps that’s the reason why you’ve come to this page anyway), there’s a fat chance you’ll have put these wonderful areas on your list too. And with reason. The Islas Ballestas are thé spot for some wildlife galore.

I had heard of the nickname of Islas Ballestas; Poor Man’s Galapagos. And that made me rather sceptical of visiting these islands in front of Paracas. I mean, that’s quite a standard to live up too right? But even though I had visited the Galapagos islands on a catamaran tour before, I was still immensely impressed by their Peruvian counterpart and the amazing volume of wildlife to behold over there. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so much birds at the same time! And bird droppings either 🙂

The Paracas National Park on the other hand is mainly quite impressive because of the vastness of the area. It’s basically one big desert full of mulberry sand, steep cliffs, fossils (well-preserved due to the dry environment) and birds.

See for yourself what it looks and feels like below! And read my articles about how to reach the Paracas National Park and Islas Ballestas if you’re planning a visit too. And for now, hasta luego!
